James Torrence Neff, 76, Indiana, died Thursday, August 10, 2017 while at Scenery Hill Manor.

The son of William T. and Virginia F. (Flickinger) Neff, he was born July 6, 1941 in Indiana, PA.

James was raised in Indiana and graduated in 1959 from Indiana High School where he participated as Indian Chief for the “Little Indians” football team from 1958-1959.  He served his country in the USAF from 1959-1963.  James graduated from San Antonio College (Texas) with an Associate Degree in Design Drafting.  For 35 years, James was employed by McCreary Tire Co. later known as “Specialty Tires of America” as a manager of tire mold design and purchasing.  He was also well known for his other tire design work as an independent design contractor for various other large tire companies.

Mr. Neff was also known for his car racing skills.  He excelled in racing many types of sports cars in Texas in the 1960s.  After returning to Pennsylvania, James continued his love of cars and racing by driving many dirt track modified and sprint type cars.  He was also a well-known coin dealer and jewelry expert throughout his life and could have been seen regularly at his permanent indoor booth at Jonnet Flea Market near Blairsville.

James was a member of the Grace Methodist Church in Indiana and also attended the United Methodist Church in Blairsville and the Holiness Church in West Lebanon.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service being held in Jim’s honor on September 16th 2017, 1:00 pm. at the Grace United Methodist Church; 712 Church Street, Indiana, PA 15701

Interment will take place in the Greenwood Cemetery next to his mother.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make a memorial donations to either Grace Methodist Church, Indiana, United Methodist Church, Blairsville, or the Holiness Church, West Lebanon.
