Kenneth “Ed” Empfield, age 74 of Indiana, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Indiana Regional Medical Center.

Ed, the youngest of five children, was born to the late Kenneth Doyle and Mabel A. (Walker) Empfield on June 12, 1942, at his family homestead in Indiana.

Ed graduated from Indiana Joint High School in 1960 and went on to work for Robertshaw Fulton Controls.  He then worked for the Homer City Generating Station, which he retired from in 1998.

He was a member of Indiana-Franklin Lodge 313 of the Freemasons.  He was also a lifetime member of the Fraternal Organization of the Elks and of the Saltsburg Sportsmen’s Club.

Ed had a long time interest in NASCAR racing and enjoyed attending several races with his son.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his grandsons in his later years.  Weekly trips for donuts and coffee with his brother, Darhl, were something he greatly looked forward to.

Ed married his wife, Nancy (Pribesh) Empfield, on April 21, 1967.  They shared almost 50 years of marriage together before his passing.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Pribesh) Empfield; a son, Kenneth Doyle Empfield II and wife Hillary.  He was beloved “Grandfather” to his grandsons, Elijah Kenneth and Josiah Benjamin.  Also surviving are a brother, Darhl W. (Nylene) Empfield, numerous nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Pribesh.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Donald I. Empfield; sister, Joanne (Empfield) Parker; and sister, Norma (Empfield) Lewis.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home, Indiana.  A Masonic service will be held at 6 p.m.  Funeral service will be conducted at 8pm in the Lefdahl Chapel with the Rev. Richard Motzing officiating.
