Cora Jean (Smith) Hiester passed away peacefully in her own home on September 24, 2017 following a brief illness.
The daughter of Paul W. Smith and Elva (Potts) Smith, she was born September 17, 1928 in Rochester Mills, Pa.
Cora Jean lived her entire life in Indiana County. She took great pride in maintaining her independence into her 89th year. She was an accomplished seamstress, cook and baker, as well as a lover of animals especially cats, particularly Susie who is missing her terribly. Cora Jean retired from a 35 year career at the Bell Telephone Company in 1975.
She is survived by two step-sons, Thomas and Lynn Hiester, and many nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband Huber D. Hiester, whom she married on July 1, 1950. They were married for 48 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law; and all of her siblings: Effie A. (Howard) Jeffries, L. Dale (Peg) Smith, Alta E. (Leland) Pfeiffer, John A. Smith, and Lois P. (Charles) Berry.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be a memorial service to celebrate Jean’s life at the Marion Center Presbyterian Church at 2:00 PM Saturday October 7, 2017 officiated by Pastor Chris Enoch.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the VNA and the Marion Center Presbyterian Church.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home, Indiana.
