Steve Hodak Sr., 83, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Communities at Indian Haven, Indiana Pa.

The son of John Sr. and Katheryn (Iskat) Hodak, he was born May 20, 1933 in Dixonville.

Mr. Hodak was baptized and raised in the St. John’s Ukranian Orthodox Church, Dixonville, where he sang in the church choir for many years.  His Orthodox faith and Slovak traditions were very important to him and he faithfully passed those same traditions down to his son.  He served his country in the United States Army, Korea, and was a member of the Clymer American Legion Post 222, Clymer.  Mr Hodak’s passion his entire life was baseball, having played in the Army and as a well-known all-star left handed pitcher in the Indiana County League. 

Surviving is his son Stephen C. Hodak, Indiana, to whom he was very, very proud of; brothers, Nicholas Hodak and his wife Mary, Collins, New York, George Hodak and his wife Christine, Dixonville; sister-in laws Mary Hodak, Dixonville and Mary Ann Hodak, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews including a special nephew Joe Hodak, Dixonville.

Mr. Hodak was preceded in death by his parents; wife Edna; siblings, Michael Hodak, Peter Hodak, John Hodak Jr., Mary (Hodak) Mills, Paul Hodak, William (Wasko) Hodak, and also by his daughter-in-law Debra L. Hodak.

There will be no public visitation.  Services for the family will be held on Monday, November 28th at the John A Lefdahl Funeral Home, Indiana with Parastas and graveside services officiated by the Rev. Father Matthew Conjelko.  Interment will be in the St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Indiana with full military rites provided by the Clymer American Legion Post 222.

If so desired, memorial contributions can be made in Mr. Hodak’s name to the “Debra L. Hodak inspirational Donor Wall” which was erected in memory of his daughter-in-law in the Indiana Medical Arts Building of the Indiana Regional Medical Center to benefit the Herbert L. Hanna Oncology Center. Contributions to be sent to the Indiana Healthcare Foundation 835 Hospital Road, Indiana, Pa 15701 or to the charity of one’s choice.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses and the entire staff of Communities at Indian Haven for their excellent and compassionate care.
