William Morrison McCrea

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved patriarch, William Morrison McCrea. “Pappy” passed away unexpectedly after succumbing to a sudden decline in health on October 8, 2024 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He was surrounded by his three doting daughters who adored him. 

William was born at home on June 20, 1941 in Blairsville, PA to Geraldine Irene (Marshall) McCrea and John Thompson McCrea both now deceased. He was the first born son in a family of nine children and his personality was befitting of the eldest male child. He was a confident, determined, and sometimes willful man whose charm easily smoothed the rough edges. He is survived by  sisters, Jackie ( Willis) Cunkelman, Blairsville, PA; Doris Jean (William) Ramsden, Blairsville, PA ; Margaret ( James) Babco, Blairsville, PA; Donna ( Terry) Griffith, Indiana, PA; Gayle ( Greg) Sikora, Latrobe, PA; and one brother, Robert ( Donna) McCrea, Blairsville, PA. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Frances ( Don) Marsh and Ruth (John) Smith. 

William was a graduate of Blairsville High School in 1959 and went on to enlist in the United States Army. He worked for most of his career at Helen Mining Company in Homer City, PA until its closure in the early 1990’s. 

William married Linda ( Berringer) McCrea on May 1, 1965 and they made their home in Homer City, PA until Linda’s passing on September 15, 2020. Together they raised three daughters; Kelly Lyn ( Mark) Rearick, Spring Church, PA; Kimberly Ann (Patrick) Henigin, Blairsville, PA and Kristin Elaine McCrea, Indiana, PA. Pappy had nine grandchildren whom he loved with his whole heart. Mitchell M.Duke, Indiana, PA; Madison K. (Tyler) O’Hara, Indiana, PA ; John G.” Jack” Rearick, Oklahoma City, Ok; Nicole ( Tyler) Hunter, Elderton, PA; Jordan ( Keisha) Rearick, Indiana, PA; Taylor ( Nathan) Miller, Reading, PA; Katherine A. Henigin, Blairsville, PA; Garrett P. Henigin, Dayton, OH; and Tyler J. McCrea, Indiana PA. He was also blessed with 10 great-children who were the apple of his eye. Bill spent the last years of his life with his special partner, Carol Howard, whom he greatly cherished. 

Bill lived a very active life after retirement. He spent quality time with his family often traveling with his daughters to seek new adventures. He could be found daily at Sheetz in Homer City, PA around 4:00 pm daily hanging out with his coffee buddies and deliberating world issues. You could also find him on Monday evenings at Hoss’s Steak and Sea House, where he was a regular fixture or Thursday afternoons at The Auction Barn in Homer City where he enjoyed the feature lunch of the day. He lived his life fully on his terms and in his style. He will be missed more than mere words can say.

Friends will be received on Friday, October 11 from 2:00 PM until the time of service at 7:00 PM at the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home, 898 Old Route 119 North, Indiana, PA 15701.
