Roberta Jean Fisher

Roberta Jean Fisher died January 4, 2020, two days before her 93rd birthday, at Communities at Indian Haven. She was born on January 6, 1927 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania to Carl and Ethel (Johnson) Thomas.  Growing up, she attended several schools in Western Pennsylvania as her family followed her father’s climb up the corporate ladder at Bell Telephone.  She graduated from Dubois High School and Indiana State College (now IUP) with a BS in Mathematics Education.  After graduating from college, she taught high school math for two years at the Stewart School in New Kensington.

In 1950, Roberta (Bobby) married Walter Lawrence Fish and established a home in Indiana, Pennsylvania.  They had five children who survive her:  Susan and husband Dan Fisher of Indiana PA; David and wife Sandy (Young) of Blairsville; Amy and husband Okey Wolfe of Mt Morris PA; Judith and husband Ralph Stitt of Indiana PA; and Laura Katherine (Kathy) Jones of Nokesville Virginia.  After Walter died in 1981, Bobby worked several years managing the Nursery Nook Daycare Center in Indiana, where she loved being the honorary grandmother of the preschool children who were enrolled.

In October 1989, she married the love of her life, Edward Fisher, the father of her son-in-law Dan Fisher.  They met at her daughter Susan’s wedding and, from that first moment, were constantly together and never stopped talking and enjoying life.  Edward died in 2000.

Her final years were spent in assisted living where her love of music and singing first became apparent.  While at Rose Haven, she spent hours singing along with her personal Karaoke machine.  Her love of music continued when she moved to Communities at Indian Haven.  When she lost the ability to remember lyrics or read, she hummed.  When she could no longer remember melodies she composed and hummed her own songs.  It was when the music stopped that we knew she was ready to join Edward Fisher.

Bobby is survived by the children and spouses listed above; grandchildren SeanPaul Fish,

Jon-David Fish, Matthew Wolfe and wife Kimberly (Schrenkel), Jeremy Stitt and wife Hillary (Harding), Aaron Stitt and wife Kristen (Juhasz), and Logan Jones; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin and Nolan Stitt and Kennedy Stitt.  She was preceded in death by both husbands; her grandson Joshua Fish; a step-son Edward Fisher Jr; a son in law, Neil Jones; her sister, Shirley Thomas Henry and her brother Carl Thomas Jr. 

Funeral arrangements will be private.  She will assume her place beside her husband Edward Fisher in Oakland Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Lefdahl Funeral Home.
