Patricia Lesher Obituary

Patricia Anne (London) Lesher

Indiana, Pennsylvania – Patricia Anne London was born March 9, 1934 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to William G. London and Dorothy E. Donahue. She passed away on October 15, 2024 in Indiana, PA.

Pat was raised in Indiana, PA and enjoyed a wonderful childhood. She graduated from Indiana High School in 1952 and went on to obtain her nursing degree from Martland Medical Center in Newark, NJ as a Registered Nurse in 1955. She was quite proud of the profession of nursing and would regale anyone with stories of what it was like to be a nurse “in her day” including nurses and doctors that cared for her over the years!

During a dance at Cowan’s Gap, she met and then later married Richard L. Lesher of Chambersburg, PA. They soon moved to Pittsburgh where Richard began his undergraduate studies at Pitt. Pat worked as a nurse as her husband also worked and continued his studies to a doctorate a few years later. During this whirlwind of college life they built a family together and had 2 boys and 2 girls. Pat quickly learned the art of juggling as she navigated the rigors of motherhood with 4 young and active children.

While working as a nurse and raising her children she found time to develop and enjoy many interests such as riding through the Pennsylvania countryside with her dad on a motorcycle, fishing, boating, softball, traveling, playing scrabble, needlepoint, making quilts, was a voracious reader and while growing up she enjoyed playing basketball. She was an excellent cook and was especially known for her “pot pie” and sauerkraut.

She loved to laugh with family and friends to the point of sheading tears. Pat loved to “people watch” and got a kick out of the crazy things that some people would do. She made many quilts and gave them away to family and friends. She loved spending time with her sister Susan making quilts together and playing “word” games together via her Kindle.

Pat’s love of learning continued throughout her life as she enrolled in many continuing education classes at local colleges and read books on historical, religious and self-help topics. Her reading continued all the way until her recent surgery. She loved to watch documentaries and political shows.

About 15 years after divorcing, Pat met Jack Filler and the two of them built a life together for 31 years. Pat helped to raise Jack’s 2 youngest children in a home that Pat built on the same road, in Penn Run, where her parents had built 2 homes. She and Jack enjoyed watching sports together (mostly Steelers & Pirates games) and were passionate about their love of our country.

Pat is survived by her loving fiancé Jack Filler, her children, Doug (Laurie) Lesher, Betsy (David) Kerr, Craig (Yuko) Lesher; Jack’s children, Jenny McConnell, Andrew (Brittney) Filler, Megan (Jerry) Vallies, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and her sister Susan. She was preceded in death by her parents, William G. London and Dorothy E. Donahue, sister Nancy, as well as her beloved daughter Laurie Lynn Snyder.

To honor her wishes, there was a private gathering as she requested no services. The family thanks all those that cared and showed love and support to Pat, and her family, especially in her final days. We greatly appreciate the family, friends and neighbors who have reached out in support. We are both heartbroken to be separated from Pat, yet at peace as we know that she is free from the pains that she endured for so long. She will be extremely missed and never forgotten as she blessed the lives of so many. We know that she is happy to be reunited with family and loved ones that have passed and look forward to the day when we will all be reunited as family and friends.
