Harry Walker Obituary

Harry Lee Walker, 90, of Anderson, SC, long time resident of Indiana, PA, passed away at the home of his son Harry "Gene" Walker on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

 

Born on September 9, 1933, in Orion, IL, he was a son of the late Charles Luther and the late Mary Ruth Steffy Walker.

 

Harry attended Penn Run school and graduated from Indiana Joint High School. He worked on the farm helping his father and siblings. Later on, he worked at the Quaker State gas station at 4th and Water Street, Hill Top Dairy, sold insurance, and worked out of state at a factory. 

 

He had a long career with Fisher Scientific of Indiana working as a machinist and was a group leader. Many of his coworkers were part of his extended family. He enjoyed helping others, reading, visiting friends and relatives. Harry was a caring and loving son, brother, husband, father and friend who will be deeply loved and will be missed.

 

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara Jean Sadler Walker as well as his children, Karen G Walker Mers (Randall) of Clymer, Harry E  Walker (Wanda) of Anderson, SC, Christine Hopson Clark (Robert) of Pittsburgh, Tracey Hopson Redd (Terrence) of Indiana, Lori WalkerColananni (John) of Indiana, Cynthia Hopson Gerideau (Frank) of Monroeville & Juan Hopson (Kristi) of Pittsburgh, his grandchildren, Brian E  Walker (Jamie) , Cristie L  Smeltzer (Doug) , David S Walker, Candice Child, Avery Redd, Angel Redd, Ameia Redd, Hadden Hopson & Raquel Hopson, 16 great grandchildren & 5 great-great grandchildren. 

 

He is also survived by his siblings, Robert Charles Walker (Joan) of Pinehurst, NC, Gerald Allen Walker of Oberlin, OH & Edith LaRue Walker Hauser of Columbus, OH.   

 

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, brother, George G Walker (Betty) of Arcadia, IN, sisters, Elizabeth L Walker Lewis (Bill) of Avon, OH, & Patricia G Walker Brillhart (Ed) of Taylorsville, PA as well as his first wife, Virginia L Donahue King (Donald) of Home, PA, and one grandchild, Michael C Johnston.

 

The family will have a private celebration of Harry’s life. He requested that no public memorial be held. The family would like to thank AnMed, Hospice of the Upstate, The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center and Lefdahl’s Funeral Home of Indiana, PA. 

 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a hospice center or the charity of your choice.
