Harold Dee "Smitty" Smith

Harold Dee “Smitty” Smith, 80, of Melbourne Beach, FL, formerly of Indiana, passed away on Saturday June 8, 2024 at his home in Florida with his family by his side. 

He was born March 5, 1944 to Clay and Gladys (Pearce) Smith in Fulton Run, Indiana County. 

Smitty was a graduate of Indiana High School. Smitty was a longtime member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Indian Harbor Beach, FL,. He worked at FMC Corporation for 42 years before his retirement. He and his wife Carolyn owned and operated the Flower Boutique for over 25 years. Smitty and his wife Carolyn celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in May.  They loved traveling and  going on cruises and together they visited all 50 states and numerous islands.  Smitty enjoyed playing bocce and rifle and bow hunting. He made numerous elk hunting trips to Colorado. Smitty was a loving and generous husband, father and grandfather who was loved very much by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Carolyn (Slansky) Smith, Melbourne Beach, FL, two daughters; Denise Walker, Indiatlatic, FL, and Loren Uretta, KY,  and a son, Brian D. Smith and wife Debbie, Indiana, grandchildren; Danielle Rhodes and husband Austin, Charlotte, NC, Justin Howard, Melbourne Beach, FL, Rachele Smith, Charlotte, NC,  and Autumn Smith, Indiana, and a brother Richard “Dick” Smith and wife Jane, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Karen Smith, as well as his in-laws, Ed and Jesse Slansky.

Friends will be received on Friday from 3-7 PM and on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home, Indiana. 

Interment will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Indiana.
