Frederick Serbin, 83, passed away peacefully at his home outside of Pittsburgh, PA on Monday, November 23, 2020.
Fred was born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 24, 1937, the only son of the late Hilda Serbin, and was preceded in death by his late wife Barbara E. (Shotts) Serbin.
Fred is survived by sons of his first marriage to Baillee (Kleckner) Serbin: Edward (Roberta) Serbin of Monroeville and his children Tulip & Mollie; Joseph (Michelle) Serbin of Pittsburgh and his children Jacob & Michael; and David (Denise) Serbin of Pittsburgh and his children Isabelle, Hilary & Isaac.
Survived also by his stepdaughter Jennifer (Joseph) Hermann of Plum and children Joseph H IV & Stella.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh on Stanton Avenue, Fred started his career at a very young age by keeping the books for his mother's small business. He then leveraged that experience into a full scholarship at the University of Pittsburgh where Fred became a respected member of Kappa Nu fraternity, completed Army ROTC training program and performed the duties of Business Manager for the Pitt newspaper, graduating in 1959.
Fred served 2 years in the United States Army rising to the rank of 1st Lieutenant and honorably discharged in 1961.
After a successful career of structuring accounting departments for multiple Pittsburgh companies, Fred ultimately opened his own successful small business helping other small businesses with their accounting and finances.
Sharing a love for warm oceanside destinations, Fred and Barbara, his wonderful wife of 38 years, traveled as much as they could, often including family and friends on their beach vacations.
Fred was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and true friend whose kindness and wisdom was well sought after. He was a generous loving soul and he will be sorely missed.
The family will have a private graveside memorial service conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, November 27, 2020 at Oakland Cemetery in Indiana, PA.
