Donald C. Rasmussen

Donald C. “Don” Rasmussen, 101, of Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025, at his home.

He was born on October 31, 1923, in Ryder, North Dakota to Robert and Nora (Amundson) Rasmussen.

Don lived on a farm until he answered the call of duty by enlisting in the Army in 1943. Don was a member of the 11th Airborne Division, a radio operator with 457th parachute field artillery. Don was a Sargent that took part in a daring raid on the Los Banos Prison Camp, Philippines, which took place many miles inside enemy lines. The Battery liberated over 2000 very grateful United States and allied prisoners.

After his service he returned to North Dakota where he met his wife, Alice (Plutowski). Together they enjoyed 54 years of marriage. Don is proceeded in death by his wife Alice in 2008 and son, Keith in 2019. The remaining children are Kenneth (Juanita), Gail (Jim) Kostryk, Guy and girlfriend Linda, Dale (Linda). Don is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Corrie, Alicia, Nick, Brandi, Lorie, Evan, Kevin, Steven, and Donald. Don also has 12 Great grandchildren.

Don was the second of eight boys. He is preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters-in-law’s: Howard, Lowell (Kathy), Robert (Phyllis and Lida), Wallace, Franklin, Byron (Gale) and sister-in-law Pearl. Surviving is one Brother, William and companion Patricia.

Gail, Jim, and Rusty would like to thank all the friends of the neighborhood for keeping a watchful eye out for Don during his daily walks. Don and his walker tended to occasionally stray to the center of the road. Smile. Don enjoyed those walks and conversing with the neighbors. He was always wanting to voice his opinion on any topic of the day. During the warmer months Don enjoyed sitting on the back patio and watch the birds and critters, reading, and playing Mahjong. Throwing in an occasional nap and life was good.

In lieu of flowers, if so desired, a donation can be made to a military charity of your choice.

Friends will be received on Monday from 4:00 -7:00 PM at the Lefdahl Funeral Home, 898 Old Rte. 119 N., Indiana, PA 15701. A Prayer service will be held at 6:00 PM

Don will be interned alongside his wife at the Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California with full military honors.
