David M. Fairman

David M. “Dave” Fairman, 66, of Indiana passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, after battling cancer for over a year.  Dave passed away 9 days before his 33rd wedding anniversary to Sandi.

He was a proud graduate of the Homer Center High School class of 1977 and a 2002 graduate of ITT Technical Institute in Monroeville.  Dave had been an employee of Rochester & Pittsburgh Coal Company for 21 years prior to becoming the Public Works Director for Indiana Borough and most recently he was the Public Works Manager for Blairsville Borough.

For many years he enjoyed making things from wood for his family and friends, that enjoyment was magnified when he discovered the lathe. Hundreds of hours were spent teaching himself how to turn.  Then he met a fellow woodturner, John Sinosky, who became his mentor, and a new world opened up for Dave.  John taught his eager student how to create, solve problems and take it up a notch.  Dave’s knowledge and skill began to amplify under John’s guidance.  John was not only Dave’s mentor but also his good friend. 

Dave was preceded in death by his father Clark Fairman and stepmother, Helen Fairman, his paternal grandparents; Twila and Jess Fairman, sister; Janice Bender, his nephew; Timothy Fairman, his mother-in-law; Marilyn Dilg and sister-in-law; Barbara Dilg.

He is survived by his mother, Audrey (Wallace) Goodlin. Dave is also survived by the following siblings; Ronald (Julie) Fairman, Charles Fairman, Barbara (Jim) Donaldson, Twyle (Brian) Hess and Clark Jr. “Bud” Fairman.  Dave was close to his brothers, Ron & Bud, with whom he enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge of many topics.  Dave is also survived by his children Richard Fairman and Jennifer (Chuck) Overly, grandchildren and multiple nephews and nieces.

In addition to the above, Dave is survived by his wife, Sandi and stepchildren, Sabrina (Jason) Condino, Staci (Michael) Smith, Shawn (Lauren) Julock and seven step grandchildren.

And then there is his Aunt Rosie, his special aunt that meant the world to him.  And in addition to his special bond with his neighbor, Bill, he stayed in contact with several of his friends from his days at Homer Center High School.  There is no need to mention names as they know who I am referring to.

Sandi and the family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Ramineni of the Hillman Cancer Center and his caring staff in addition to Concordia/VNA, Hospice, both of Indiana, for the wonderful care they gave to Dave.

A private service was held on Wednesday, July 30th at the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home, Indiana with Pastor Howard Greenfield officiating.
