William, Bill “Bucky” Chappell, 79, Indiana, died Monday, September 17, 2018, at his residence.
The son of Clarence H. and Nellie (Barney) Chappell sr., he was born March 3, 1939 in Chambersville.
Bill had attended Indiana High School and later enlisted in the Army. After the military, Bill was employed by the Indiana Country Club as the head groundskeeper as well as the Indiana VFW, followed by employment by Roger Reschini of the Reschini Group as superintendent and then by Jim Miller, J.M. Miller, INC. as a maintenance worker.
December 17, 2004 marked the wedding of Bill and Donna Rizzo Chappell. Together they enjoyed walking, trips to Salamanca, N.Y, cheering for the Pirates and Steelers, and celebrating with friends at the Indiana Moose. Bill was also an avid golfer who loved landscaping.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Surviving is his wife, Donna; a daughter, Michele (Ronald) Smith, Ebensburg; two sons, Christopher (Sheri Polster) Chappell, Fort Myers, FL, and Charles (Bridget Cornman) Chappell, Latrobe; seven grandchildren, Carley, Garrett and Nathan Smith, Michael and Zachary Chappell, Sumer and Haylee Chappell; step grandchildren, Tonya and Christopher Cornman, and the mother of his children, Linda Chappell; sisters, Anne (Bill) Ryan, Mary Lou (Jim) Shaffer, Dianna (George) Haws, Nancy (Nelson) Hitchcock, Doris (Robert) Stadtmiller, and Donna Zometsky; brothers, Robert “Denny” (Janet) Chappell, David (Sharon) Chappell; sister-in-law, Shirley Chappell; in-laws, Anthony (Evelyn) Rizzo; step sons, Mike Peter, Joe (Jodi) Peter; step grandchildren, Baylen, Lucy, and Grace; and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceding Bill in death were his parents; brother, Clarence “Junior” Chappell; step-brothers, Thomas Pecco, Paul Landi, George Landi; step-sisters, Virginia Pecco Skerbetz and Pauline Landi Labant; brother-in-law, John Zometsky; nieces, Donna Labant, Marie Smoker, and Paula Clearwater; nephews, Steven Shaffer and Cody Ryan; in-laws, Faye Landi, Eddie Labant, and Tony Skerbetz.
Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home, Indiana. Funeral service will be conducted Saturday morning, 11 am in the Lefdahl Chapel with Rev. Micah McMillen, officiating.
Interment in the Oakland Cemetery will be private.
