Ruth McAllister, 98, died Sunday, December 31, 2017 at the Communities of Indian Haven.

Born in Indianapolis and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Ruth lived most of her adult life in Algonac, Michigan, in a home on the St. Clair River.  She was a devoted wife and mother and was very active as a community volunteer and Girl Scout leader.  She and her husband, Bill McAllister, loved fishing, hunting, square dancing, and bowling.  In their "retirement" years, they developed an interest in lapidary and founded a successful business, R&M Gems.  Several years after Bill's death in 1998, Ruth moved to Indiana, PA to live with her daughter and son-in-law.

Ruth loved making jewelry and was an avid computer Scrabble and solitaire player into her 90s.  She will be fondly remembered for her love of family, intelligence, lifelong curiosity, and especially for her sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William McAllister and her daughter, Pamela Jacobs.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and William Rettig of Indiana and five grandchildren, Erin Yeagley and her husband Daniel Karp of Rockville, MD, Joshua Yeagley and his partner, Scarlet Jimenez of College Park, MD, Brendan Kerr of Springfield, VA, Jessica Kerr and her husband, Patrick Farley of Nokesville, VA and Kevin Kerr and his partner, Lori Lewellyn of Woodbridge, VA.

In accordance with Ruth's wishes, there will be no viewing or service.  The family will celebrate her life at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
