Melvin “Lee Wells”, 82, Home, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, March27, 2018, while at the Butler Memorial Hospital.
The son of Melvin Lloyd and Nellie Anna (Buchanan) Wells, he was born May 6, 1935 in Vandergrift, PA.
Lee had been employed for thirty years as a coal miner, and was a member of Local UMWA 1412. Prior to mining, beginning at the age of twelve, he was employed with his father as a mason. Mr. Wells was a gifted carpenter, mason, and brick layer. For each of his children, he constructed a fireplace in their home, some made with stone and others brick. He also built a garage and constructed many beautiful items for his family.
When not working, Lee enjoyed family outings, hunting, camping, playing cards, and country western music. He was very fond of his wife’s cooking and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a member of the Washington Presbyterian Church, Home, PA.
Surviving is his wife whom he wed June 20, 1953, Agnes (Rummell) Wells; children, Dusty (Marilyn) Wells, Home, Gerry Wells, Home, Beth (David) Orr, Creekside; grandchildren, Jason (Cathy) Wells, Chad (Mandee) Wells, Lacie (Brandon) Cook, Gavin Wells, Tyler Orr and Maleah Orr; great grandchildren, Morgan Wells, Logan and Garet Wells, Shawna and Easton Cook, Landon Ament, and Hayden Wells; sisters-in-law, Betty (Domiana) Wells, Indiana and Betty (Aul) Wells, Home; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Lee in death were his parents; grandson, Joshua Wells; brothers, Howard, J. Leroy (Roy), and Danny Wells; sisters, Geraldine Miller, Jane Strong and Margaret “Peggy” Frech.
Per Lee’s request, visitation will be private, with private interment, to be at the Washington Church Cemetery.
