Marie Hertha (Schmieder) Barenick, 81, Indiana, passed away Friday, October 20, 2017 at St. Andrews Village.          .

The daughter of Herman and Hattie (New) Schmieder, she was born October 7, 1936 in Bethel Park, Pa.

Marie was a 1955 graduate of Bethel High School. She moved to Indiana County in the early 1970s. Marie was employed by Foodland for 13 years and then the National Bank of the Commonwealth until she retired in 1999. After retirement she did demos in grocery stores at Giant Eagle, Wal-Mart, and Martins.  She loved polka music and actually met her husband at a polka dance. Her interests also included gardening, growing flowers, cooking, sewing, canning, feeding and watching the birds and was an avid bird and animal watcher. Marie was a people person and will be remembered for her personality and big smile. 

Surviving are her two sons, James and William Betz, both of Clymer; special friend, Craig Heck, Follansbee, WV; grandchildren, Jason Betz, Pittsburgh, Jeremy Betz and his fiancée, Kelly, Johnstown, and Eric Betz, Cherry Tree; great grandchildren, Ian Buterbaugh, Clymer, Logan Betz, Pittsburgh, Jayella Betz, Pittsburgh, Cody Betz, Johnstown, and Riley Betz, Johnstown; and a brother, Karl Schmieder.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, James Betz, second husband, William Spahr, and third husband, George Barenick. 

Friends will be received on Tuesday from 11 to 12pm Tuesday at the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 12pm in the Lefdahl Chapel with Rev. Matt Lantz, officiating. A private interment will take place in the Twin Valley Cemetery in Delmont.
