Gary Dwaine Spidell, 69, Home, died Thursday, September 21, 2017 while at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. 

The son of Brian and Emily (Hudgins) Spidell, he was born May 9, 1948 in Norfolk, VA.

Gary was a graduate of Norfolk Christian High School, class of 1966 and a graduate of Virginia Tech in 1970.

Gary was an active member of the Punxsutawney Alliance Church where he had served as an Elder, member of the governing board, and taught Sunday School.  Working in sales most of his life, he was a very hard worker and then retired from the Indiana Gazette.  

Gary led an active life and was devoted to a variety of activities.  He spent 2 years in the Philippines teaching school.  As a member of the NRA and a 4-H leader for shooting sports and local livestock club he took great pleasure in working with youth.  Among Gary's many accomplishments, he was a Master Gardener through the Penn State University program.  Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys and relatives.  Raising and showing sheep at the various county fairs and introducing kids to agriculture was one of Gary's many passions.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who would travel long distances to watch his boys participate in their sporting activities.

Surviving is his wife Connie (McMillen) Spidell, Home PA; mother, Emily Spidell, Norfolk, VA; children, Jeremy (Liz) Spidell, Greensboro, NC, Chad (Laura) Spidell, Spring Mills, PA, and Cory (Kimberly) Spidell, Lower Burrell, PA; grandchildren, Maya, Malia and Cloey Spidell; and a brother, Glen and his wife Tami, Knoxville, TN.

Preceding Gary in death was his father.

A Memorial Service will be held on September 30th at 5:00 pm at the Punxsutawney Alliance Church. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Punxsutawney Alliance Church building fund 1307 S Main Street Ext Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
