Alfonso Embry, Sr., 92, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.
The son of Dordge and Mary (Knaff) Embry, he was born June 3, 1926 in Johnstown, PA.
Mr. Embry was a graduate of Conemaugh Valley School and a trustee of the Beulah Baptist Church. His primary employment was with R&P Coal Company, having worked at Jane Coal Mines for 40 years. Alfonso had also been employed by A&D Davis as a truck driver and McCreary Tire and Rubber. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed carpentry. Alfonso will be remembered as a great provider and wonderful father who was loved by all.
Surviving is his wife, Lydia Marlene (Clawson) Embry; children, Otis (Paula) Stradford, Carolyn (Herman) Fisher, Virgil (Cindy) Embry, Dodge (Roxanne) Embry, LuGene (George) Clemons, Pamela (Michael) Powell, Michael (Toni) Embry, Alfonso (Diana) Embry, Jr., Kenneth (Monica) Embry, Deneen (Thomas) Smith; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; sisters, Doris Gibson, Margaret (Leo) Peoples, Grace Peoples, Lera (Elmer) Veney, and Geraldine (Michael) Noon; sister-in-law, Eleanor Embry.
Alfonso was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Embry; sister, Estella (Claude) Scholfield; granddaughter, Autumn Singleton; and brothers-in-law, Howard Peoples and Bobby Gibson.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home, Indiana. An additional hour of visitation will be conducted on Monday from 11 a.m. to noon with a funeral service to immediately follow in the Lefdahl Chapel with Rev. David Hanson, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery.
