William Young Obituary

William Joseph Young, 75, of Indiana, PA, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at home.

William (Bill) was born on July 13, 1948, to Lawrence and Ethel (Siesky) Young in Uniontown, PA. He grew up in Butler, PA, graduating from Butler Area High School. He joined the Navy after graduation, serving as a jet mechanic from 1966-1969. After leaving the service, Bill held a variety of jobs, including one in loan finance that landed him in Mansfield, PA. It was there that he met Terry, his wife of 46 years. They were married on May 7, 1977 and had three children Cody, Mason, and Lauren.

Bill and Terry moved to Indiana, PA in 1985, where Bill took a job with PennDOT in the Right-of-Way department. He retired from PennDOT in 2009, as the Right-of-Way Administrator. He then worked as a consultant for Arrow Land Solutions of Altoona, PA, for 7.5 years, retiring again in 2017. He was a dedicated and well-respected employee, known throughout the state for his expertise and years of experience. He built incredible friendships with many coworkers and received one of his greatest honors when both of his sons pursued careers in the same industry.

Bill was an avid outdoorsman. His trip to Wyoming in 2022 to hunt antelope was his hunt of a lifetime. He was a coach to several of his daughter’s softball teams, a Steelers fan, and enjoyed playing golf. He was part of the Monday night PennDOT golf league for many years, including several with his eldest son, Cody, as his partner. Most of all, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family.

Bill was an incredible husband, father, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife Terry (Crane) Young; two sons Cody W. Young (Elaine (Rougeux) Young) and Mason R. Young; daughter Lauren Young (Tyler Gregorchik); siblings Lawrence Young and Lyndl Hoff; grandchildren Bryson Young and Ava Young. He is also survived by his lifelong best friend Victor Drobezko of Butler, PA.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Ethel Young and his brother Edgar Young.

There will be a private ceremony held by his family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or by planting a tree in Bill’s memory at https://onetreeplanted.org/products/in-memory.
