John Louis Kurtz, Sr., 89, Indiana, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017 peacefully at his residence.

The son of Louis and Emma (Tipton) Kurtz, he was born August 9, 1927 in Claysburg, PA.

John taught high school for 39 years and also coached football and track.  Mr. Kurtz was a member of the Indiana Lions for over 30 years.  He enjoyed biking, walking, swimming, reading, gardening, and volunteering at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.      

Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Mary Agnes (Schiller) Kurtz, Indiana; sons, John (Gina) Kurtz, Aurora, CO and Robert (Sandra) Kurtz, Arlington, TX; granddaughters, Sydney and Kendyl Kurtz, Austin, TX; and a sister, Helen Amick, Tyrone.

Mr. Kurtz was preceded in death by his parents; three infant children, Thomas, James, and Robert; brothers, Thomas and William Kurtz; and brother-in-law, Chester Amick.

Friends are invited to attend John’s funeral Mass on Wednesday, 10 am, at the St. Thomas More University Parish.

Interment in the St. Bernard Cemetery will be private.
