Grace (Brickell) Wetzel, 94, Indiana, (formerly of Punxsutawney) passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Indiana Regional Medical Center.
The daughter of Clair Hopkins and Velma Love (Fetterman) Brickell, she was born September 15, 1923 in Rossiter, Pa.
During her youth, she resided in Rossiter, PA where her parents owned and operated Brickell’s Market. Upon graduation from Rossiter High School she attended Franklin School of Science and Arts in Philadelphia where she studied Medical Technology/Secretary curriculum and later was employed as a histology technician/ medical secretary.
Over her career she was employed by Indiana Hospital and was a long time employee of Adrian Hospital/Punxsutawney Area Hospital from where she retired in 1986.
Grace will fondly be remembered by many for her love of family, compassion, sense of humor, work ethic, love of garage sales, scratch off lottery tickets, and her fabulous homemade candy.
She always had a listening ear for those in need and encouragement. She held a special place in the hearts of so many people. Grace will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her four children, Sue (Wayne) Glenn of Charlotte, NC, Deborah (Phillip R.) Dale of Punxsutawney, Harold Wetzel of Indiana, and Denise (Don) Johnson of Indiana; special niece, Maureen (Brickell) Mancuso of Punxsutawney. Grace’s children were the focus of her life, as were her 8 grandchildren, Michele (Jeffrey) Long, Huntersville, NC, Kevin Glenn and his fiancée, Sara Helms, Gastonia, NC, Jennifer Johnson and Chris Clemens, Indiana, PA, Don C. Johnson “D.J.” and his fiancée, Diana Pang, Virginia Beach, VA, David Johnson and fiancée, Jennifer Jendrejeski, Indiana, Josh Dale and fiancée, Catherine Huml, Punxsutawney, Kacee Dale, Punxsutawney and Foster Dale, Bloomsburg, PA; 11 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many niece and nephews, whom she adored. Over the last 10 years, she had many wonderful caregivers who she treated as family.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents and the siblings she adored, Bernice (Brickell) Wetzel, Therman C. Brickell, H. Daniel Brickell, and H. Edsel Brickell. She was the last of her siblings that passed.
Grace will be missed by many.
A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. in the Lefdahl Chapel.
Interment in the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana will be private.
