Edward Bem, Sr, 76 of Indiana, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 12, 2017, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born on July 19, 1940 near Cresson Shaft, Pa to the late Bernard and Matilda (Boychew) Bem.

“Ed” proudly served in the 81st Airborne Division of the United States Army before settling down in Indiana, Pa.  Prior to his retirement Ed was an owner-operator of McNaughton brothers/Allied Van Lines for over 30 years.  He sacrificed many nights from home to provide well for his wife and children.  Ed was a member of the St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church.

He enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates play year after year.  In his younger years Ed and His wife Janet enjoyed walking in many parks near and far.  He was also an avid collector of Pennies and enjoyed following the stock market.  However, his greatest passion was spending time with his beloved wife of 54 years, Janet and their children, Julie Bracken and husband Bill, Brenda Everett, Edward Bem Jr and wife Debbie, as well as their granddaughters Jennifer and Andrea Bracken.

In addition to his wife, children, son-in-law, daughter-in-law and granddaughters he is survived by his brothers John of Colorado, and Stan of California and sister Marlene of Utah.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Wally, Mike, Chuck, and Bernie.

Funeral arrangements will be private under the direction of the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home.  Interment will follow private family visitation and service at St Bernard Cemetery.
